SENIOR HUMAN FACTORS CONSULTANT

We are seeking an experienced Senior Human Factors Consultant. As a key member of the team, you will contribute to a variety of exciting projects across medical, healthcare and personal care. You will work both individually and collaboratively with team members and clients, making a real difference to peoples lives.

ABOUT YOU

  • A highly motivated and enthusiastic self starter with a positive can-do attitude,
  • A background in Product Design, Engineering, Human Factors, Psychology, Biochemistry or HCI,
  • Passionate about making a difference in people’s lives via the development of medical devices, from FemTech, diagnostics, surgical, personal care, drug delivery devices and more,
  • Knowledge and experience working with Human Factors Engineering and Usability Engineering standards and guidance, including FDA and IEC-62366,
  • Appreciation for Design Thinking and Human Centred Design approaches/frameworks.  

THE ROLE

A Senior Human Factors Consultant, advocating for the end user through conducting:

  • User research to inform early-stage user needs and requirements gathering;
  • Usability testing of low-high fidelity prototypes to production products (hardware and software) (formative and summative);
  • Thorough use related risk analyses such as uFMEAs; 
  • Human Factors / Usability Engineering file documentation (HFE plans & reports);
  • Known Use Problem analysis;
  • Stakeholder workshops (from Design to URRA)

User Research
  • Planning user research / usability studies (objective setting & methodology development, recruitment, IRB approval submissions, discussion guides, protocols etc),
  • Executing user research / usability studies in person and remotely (moderating, note taking via Excel and Miro),
  • Analysing and reporting varying levels of outputs from concise e-mail summaries to technical word reporting to visual PowerPoint presenting,
  • Creating user journey maps, user personas, task analyses etc,
  • Proficient use of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Miro or similar.
  • SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

    An established and confident Consultant, able to share expertise and advise clients:

    • Work directly with client stakeholders, building rapport and strong long-lasting relationships,
    • Listening and empathising with each client’s unique needs and providing solutions / recommendations to their problems on all aspects of human-centred design and human factors,
    • Enjoy working as part of a team yet equally can get their head down into detailed analysis and report writing,
    • Create quotes and proposals for prospective projects for existing and new clients,
    • Responsible for managing and delivering projects on time, on cost and within scope (strong timekeeping, organisational, project management and budget management skills),
    • Business development (seeking new sales opportunities, attending networking events, delivering sales presentations, writing expert thought-pieces and articles)
    • Travel nationally and internationally when required (approx. 30%).

    • Support / mentor junior members,
    • Look out for other’s well-being and health,
    • Provide team training to develop skill sets and knowledge in HF and HCD,
    • Friendly, open and approachable attitude / communication,
    • Excellent listening, written, verbal and visual communication skills,
    • Problem-solving approach to help optimise business processes and ways of working,
    • Keep on top of regulatory changes / updates and inform the wider team,
    • Support with project resourcing and task prioritisation,
    • Flexible to the changing needs in a consultancy environment whilst running multiple projects simultaneously.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Degree or higher education in Human Factors, Design, Engineering, Psychology or relevant related subject,
    • Applied medical HFE / UE experience,
    • At least four years applied experience in medical device / healthcare industries,
    • At least two years of relevant consultancy experience,
    • Ability to travel nationally and internationally when required,
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with wider team,
    • Excellent project management and ability to work under pressure,
    • Excellent written and spoken English,
    • Interest in MedTech, FemTech and Personal care desirable,

Our purpose is to put humans at the centre of the design and development of medical devices and healthcare products. We do this by bringing Human Centred Design (HCD) to life through User Research and Human Factors Engineering (HFE). We apply our expertise across the entire development process, from front-end innovation to validation.
